Formats and Competitions

Three cricket formats and major tournaments

Cricket betting covers three main formats — T20, ODI and Test. The style of betting differs for each format, so it is important to understand which market suits which match.

T20: In this 20-over format runs come fast and results can change in a moment. T20 is the most popular format for live betting. ODI: In a 50-over match the pace is slower and tactics matter more. Test: A draw is possible in this five-day format, so the betting markets are different.

The most talked-about tournaments among Bangladeshi fans are BPL, IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup. Bilateral series and the Champions Trophy also offer betting opportunities. Bangladesh Tigers matches naturally attract the most local interest.

777bet is also active in football betting alongside cricket. In a 90-minute football match a draw is a separate outcome, so each market has three options. In cricket (limited overs) the result is generally decided between the two teams. Read our sports betting guide to learn about the betting experience across different sports.

Betting Markets

The popular markets in cricket betting

Before placing a bet in any market, make sure you understand how it works — that is what keeps betting enjoyable.

Match Winner

Pick which team will win the match. In T20 and ODI there are only two outcomes — Team A or Team B. Simple and the most widely played market.

Simple All formats

Toss Winner

Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The outcome is entirely independent, so odds are generally close to even.

Pre-match

Top Batsman

Bet on who will score the most runs in their team. Pick one player — if they score the highest runs in the match, your bet wins.

Individual performance

Total Runs Over / Under

Bet on whether the total runs in the match will go above or below a set line — choose one of the two. Pitch and weather conditions come into play.

Runs-based

Multi Bet

Combine the outcomes of multiple matches into one bet. If all selections are correct the odds multiply for a larger return — but if any one loses, the entire bet is lost.

High risk High return

First Over Runs

Bet over or under on how many runs will be scored in the first over of an innings. This market is quite active during the powerplay in T20.

T20 favourite

Multi Bet Example

Say you place bets on three different matches — with odds of 1.60, 1.80 and 1.90 respectively. The combined odds would be 1.60 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 5.47 (approximately). On a ৳100 bet, if all three are correct the return is ৳547 — but if any one loses, the full ৳100 is gone. Use multi bets for entertainment, not for large amounts.

777bet odds format Decimal Fractional American
Understanding Odds

Decimal, Fractional and American Odds

The same price is written in three ways. A quick example makes it clear.

Format If Team A wins (on a ৳500 bet) Value
Decimal ৳1,500 returned (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 stake) 3.00
Fractional ৳1,000 profit per ৳500 bet 2/1
American +200 means ৳200 profit on a ৳100 bet +200

In the example above, Team A's price is 3.00 = 2/1 = +200 — all three say the same thing. Betting ৳500 and Team A winning returns ৳1,500 in total (including ৳1,000 profit); if Team A loses, ৳500 is gone.

What does a favourite's price look like? Say Team B is more likely to win — price 1.25 = 1/4 = -400. American minus odds mean you need to bet that amount to make ৳100 profit. Betting ৳500 on Team B winning returns ৳625 (৳125 profit) — the favourite is more likely to win but the profit is smaller.

777bet defaults to decimal format, but you can change it in settings. Always check the total return before placing a bet.

In-Play

How live odds change while a match is in progress

Live or in-play betting is the most engaging betting experience in cricket. Once the match starts, odds shift with every ball, every wicket and every over.

For example, if Team A is 80 for 2 after 10 overs, they appear more likely to win — so their odds will shorten. On the other hand, if Team B lose three wickets in quick succession, their odds will lengthen.

In live betting you need to decide quickly, because odds update at every moment. Big changes in the market come during the powerplay, the death overs or when a partnership breaks — this is what makes T20 so popular for live betting.

  • When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds generally lengthen.
  • After the powerplay, look at the run rate before deciding on an under/over market.
  • Odds change fast in the death overs — place your bet without rushing.
Betting Tips

A few things to keep in mind before you start

Coming in with the mindset that betting is entertainment keeps the experience positive. Some simple habits keep that entertainment responsible.

To learn more about responsible play, read our responsible gaming guide.

  • Set a budget beforehand. Set aside a fixed amount and stay within it. Avoid placing larger bets to chase losses.
  • Understand the market before you bet. Before betting in a new market, read the rules clearly — knowing how odds work leaves less room for surprises.
  • Don't put everything on one match. Spreading bets across different matches and markets means one loss doesn't end the whole session.
  • Try not to get frustrated with results. Cricket is unpredictable — rain, the pitch or a single over can turn a match. Accept the result and focus on the next match.
  • Betting is entertainment, not a source of income. Don't rely on betting for regular earnings — treat it like a game, not a pressure.

Common Questions

Cricket betting frequently asked questions

T20 is only 20 overs, so results come quickly and live odds change frequently. ODI is played over 50 overs, the run rate is relatively slower, and tactics play a bigger role. Live betting is more active in T20, while many bettors prefer pre-match markets for ODI. In Test cricket, a draw is possible, so the market has three outcomes.

The core markets — match winner, top batsman, total runs — are available in all tournaments. Larger tournaments such as IPL or T20 World Cup typically open more specialised markets, like over-by-over runs or a specific bowler's wickets. Similar markets are available for BPL matches too.

Under betting rules, if a match is abandoned before a minimum number of overs have been bowled, bets are generally voided and the stake is returned. If the match is completed via the DLS method, the result is settled on that basis. For specific rules, see 777bet's betting terms and conditions.

The top batsman market is usually team-based — you choose who will score the most runs within a specific team. There are separate markets for each of the two teams. Occasionally an overall 'match top scorer' market is also available, where batsmen from both teams are included together.

You can generally start from two selections and add more to build a multi bet. The more selections you add, the more the odds multiply — returns increase but so does the risk. Keep in mind that if any one selection loses, the entire multi bet is lost.
